London is up there with some of the most creative cities in the world that harbours some of the most innovative minds in the fields of publishing, music, art, film and more, and 2018’s show didn’t disappoint.
This year the Falcon stand moved
upstairs and occupied a bustling space on the walkway between the two main
halls. During the three days of the show we met some wonderful people. Some of
them old friends who had come back to visit us and take another guess at the
Book Mountain, but also many new visitors to the show from all different
countries and backgrounds. It really was a full-on but very enjoyable and worthwhile
week.
After the success of last year’s Falcon Book Mountain we needed to pull something out of the bag at this year’s show. Well, we decided to do the same, but bigger and better. Keeping the competition the same very simple format, guess the number of books and you win the hamper, filled to the brim with goodies local to our office in Kent.
The Mountain arrived on Sunday in its boxed form and assembly began. So many people have asked the question, ‘Is it hollow or are there books right through?’ Well, here’s your answer…
The other question asked quite a lot during installation is, ‘Do you do dry-stone walling for a living?’ And the answer is no, but if you want a mountain of books built give us a call.
The final result was, though we say so ourselves, rather impressive and quite rightly got a lot of attention during London Book Fair’s three show days.
‘But,’ I can hear you all asking, ‘how many books were there?’
The books have now been counted … and the number checked … and double-checked … and the answer was a huge 1389 books. Which was actually about 250 more than we thought the Mountain contained.
Our winner was Vicky Taylor from Igloo Books with her guess of 1386. Congratulations Vicky, and thanks for the pic. You have the look of someone who’s going to enjoy every item in that hamper.
London Book Fair is the perfect opportunity for us to catch up with industry friends we don’t see as often as we’d like … and just look who turned up for his now customary photo opportunity with our Book Mountain!
With Tiger! Tiger! Tiger! now available in ebook and paperback, author Jon-Jon has turned his attention to other projects, including another five new books. Visit his website at www.jon-jon.co.uk for more information or follow him on Twitter @JonJonWrites
It only remains for all of us at Falcon to say a huge thank you to everyone who entered our competition and for making our 2018 London Book Fair another great experience. We look forward to seeing you all at next year’s show.
